SUMMARY : Under limited direction, the Communications Manager organizes and manages the execution of the firm's comprehensive communications programs including public relations, media relations, copywriting, collateral materials, direct mail, web site content, firm identity and practice area initiatives and special events. He/she strives to ensure quality brand standards and industry position with an eye for creativity, innovation and professionalism.
The Manager collaborates with the practice group leaders, individual attorneys, General Counsel’s office, the firm management team, staff, vendors, co-counsel and clients as needed, to achieve goals and thus contribute to the sustained success of the organization. He/she supports the Director and other business development teams in strategic planning. The Manager evaluates the success of various strategies and provides and implements recommendations for improvement. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS : • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, mass communications, journalism, advertising or closely related field • At least five (5) years of communications, media/public relations experience with demonstrated track record of success • Experience with Cision or Vocus required • Previous supervisory experience required • Strong functional knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly with regard to Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite necessary • General knowledge of web design, social media, web advertising, organizational infrastructure, advertising and processes necessary • Working knowledge of advertising and marketing mediums such as print, web, video, photography and other formats used in traditional and new media communication formats • Must have strong working knowledge of communications, social media, advertising and marketing tools, strategies, tactics and procedures in a professional service environment; legal or agency work a plus • Must be detail oriented, organized with excellent written and oral communication, and presentation skills • Must possess strong collegial, collaborative and team player attributes • Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills, with attention to detail • Must be a self-starter who thrives on multitasking between various high visibility projects on short deadlines and must remain composed under significant pressures. • Must demonstrate strong ability to work with limited supervision and to delegate efficiently
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: “Essential functions” are primarily job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation made by the employer.
• Develop relations with national media and serve as firm and media contact. • Develop and maintain firm "interview bank" of attorneys able to speak to media on practice area activities and general legal issues. • Provide media coaching and training to attorneys and firm management. • Manage the conception, writing, editing and placement of firm press releases, statements, articles, blogs, etc. • Aid in the conception, copy and design of print advertisements. • Manage the writing and distribution of all necessary internal and external announcements, bios, website copy. • Manage the creation of all web site copy; assist in new page creation and linking strategies. • Edit print and electronic newsletters and other firm communications. Manage printing and mailing coordination. • Aid and manage the writing, editing and production of seminar flyers, event invitations and charitable support ads. • Manage the organization of the firm’s media clippings and required ethical filings. • Edit speaker support presentation materials as needed. • Write and direct the production of special communications projects, including but not limited to firm brochures, audio and video programs. • Oversee the maintenance of print and online listings and directories, revisions and inventory of all firm collateral materials. • Aid in event planning initiatives for the firm as it relates to creative special events such as community and political relation events, co-counsel seminars and employee relation events • Completes special projects as requested
WORKING HOURS: Work may require more than 37.5 hours per week to perform the duties of the position. Work may require travel. May require 24/7 access to media during special projects.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Overtime is possible and may be expected in order to perform the essential functions of the position. Work is performed in a normal heated or air-conditioned office environment.
