South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants

Communications Manager

The SC Association of CPAs, a statewide nonprofit organization representing some 3,700 certified public accountants in South Carolina, is seeking a full-time dynamic and talented communications professional to lead and manage all aspects of communications and public relations for the Association.  The SC Association of CPAs works to strengthen and support the CPA profession by offering programs and services, most notably continuing professional education, government relations and public service programs.  The Association is governed by a 20-member board of directors and has eight regional chapters.

Position Summary: 
Responsible for managing the marketing, communications and public service programs of the South Carolina Association of CPAs.   

Essential Functions:

 Communications

  • Electronic newsletters: Coordinate the production and dissemination of the student e-newsletter (4 times a year), the monthly e-newsletter (Current Assets), and the weekly Tuesday Teaser continuing education promotional e-mail.  Responsibilities include writing, formatting, proof-reading and editing, distributing to the membership and tracking click-throughs and response/purchase rates.  Develop special email blasts as needed. 
  • Professional Magazine: Assemble content for and oversee layout and production of a bi-monthly professional 32-page full-color magazine, The CPA Report. Activities include writing, proofreading and editing, overseeing publication layout and design, communicating with design and production vendors.  Must meet established deadlines.  Recruit and manage advertising. 
  • Marketing Association Programs, Seminars and Conferences: Confer and collaborate with various staff members to determine organizational needs and to plan and execute marketing strategies.  Design marketing brochures, postcards and other pieces along with corresponding electronic marketing.  As needed work with outside graphic artists and related vendors to manage design, layout and production of printed and promotional materials.
  • Confer and collaborate with Executive Director and Directors of Education and Membership to determine organizational needs and to plan and execute marketing plan and strategies to execute the plan. 
  • Event Support: Provide marketing and communication support for events, seminars and conferences to include signage, awards, promotional and gifts items.   Serve as staff photographer or oversee professional photographer at events for historical purposes and for periodic publication.
  • Association materials:  Maintain and produce as needed Association letterhead and envelopes, postcards, applications and other printed pieces as needed.
  • Website: Serve as key staff member responsible for the Association’s website (content and design).  Work with outside vendors to design and maintain the website and e-commerce systems.  Responsible for using website to effectively market the Association and its services and programs.  Ensure content on the website is up-to-date.
  • Ensure effective control of marketing and communications results.  Achieve marketing goals that stay within designated budget.

 Public Relations

  • Media Relations: Interact with media to promote the Association, services and CPA profession through one-on-one communication, letters and press releases.
  • Public Relations: Actively promote the profession and individual members through securing speaking opportunities for members, sending press releases…  Coordinate the speakers’ bureau and “Ambassadors” program.
  • Client Referral Program: Responsible for coordinating, implementing, advertising and growth of the client referral program, called “Find a CPA!”
  • Public Service: Serve as staff liaison for the Financial Literacy Committee, and the Awards Committee.  Provide support as needed to ensure goals are met  Participate as needed with the Information Technology Committee

 General

  • Respond to inquiries and information requests from members, vendors, media and the public
  • Assist in staff team projects and with routine staff tasks as appropriate
  • Prepares marketing activity reports
  • Assists in special projects as assigned by the Executive Director

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education – Baccalaureate degree in marketing, communications, journalism or related field. 

Experience – At least four years of marketing and communications experience to include writing, magazine and newsletter production, website and graphic design skills media and public relations. 

Specific Skills - Requires desktop and website publishing skills including newsletters, brochures and basic website design and content management. Excellent communication skills, including speaking, writing, proofreading and editing. Ability to work under tight deadlines and coordinate multiple tasks. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are a must.

Specialized Knowledge - Desktop publishing skills needed including: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, FrontPage, Publisher and web-page design.
