Welcome, Professionals and Students!
The South Carolina Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (SCPRSA) strives to advance the profession and the professional in public relations and to advance the Society through its recognition of public relations as a strategic imperative. Our mission is to be the leader and pre-eminent advocate for advancing the public relations profession and the public relations professional for the benefit of its members and society at large.
To achieve this mission, hundreds of South Carolina communications professionals collaborate on a monthly basis at SCPRSA events to build leadership through valuable programming, network with other PR professionals, learn from indispensable professional development seminars, celebrate through the profession’s most recognized awards ceremonies, and grow through the diversity of our members. Each month, public relations professionals and students gather at SCPRSA luncheons in the Lowcountry, the Midlands and Upstate to increase their knowledge about the profession and to network with colleagues in the profession. At these meetings, SCPRSA members and guest speakers pursue strategic and tactical explorations of relevant professional and societal topics such as the phenomenon of new and social media, alternative channels of traditional media, corporate case studies, green communications, ethics, nonprofits, and other similarly compelling topics. Networking is a special benefit of PRSA membership, and you find many of your professional peers eager to share resources and information, particularly if you are a solo practitioner. We welcome you to attend one of these meetings – you can check out topics and locations in the column to the right. If you could please let one of our regional directors know you are going to attend an SCPRSA meeting, we will greet you at the door and introduce you to our members. Please contact: PJ Norlander in the Lowcountry; Ashley Sherry in the Midlands; and Liza Jones in the Upstate about your attendance. SCPRSA has an excellent slate of in-depth professional development opportunities during the year. The Chapter maintains one of the nation’s highest number of accredited public relations professionals and prepares professionals each year for the PRSA accreditation testing and professional review. Please contact President-elect Brett Turner, APR, if you would like more information about this well-recognized program. On April 10 at the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston, SCPRSA will host its annual Mercury Awards Ceremony, recognizing the most outstanding achievements in public relations and communications in the Palmetto State. The next day, the Chapter will host a professional development seminar at the Charleston Marriott on these topics: Green Public Relations, Emerging Technologies and ROI Case Studies.
SCPRSA is a leading advocate of ethics in our profession in South Carolina. PRSA maintains the world’s most-recognized ethics code for public relations, and it covers members of SCPRSA and the 30,000 professional and student members of the national Society.
If you have any questions about the chapter or the profession, please don’t hesitate to contact any of SCPRSA’s leadership.
Best regards,
